Installing new bars tonight, I may have help, I may not. I'm confident in doing everything, such as internal wiring and such, I know how to take plugs apart to make it easier. Also, my cables should be long enough to work , hmmm.
My concern is throttle and idle cable. I'm ignorant to how these work and just want to know if I need to look out for something. It may make perfect sense when I awake it apart. Just want to make sure.
Also installing new grips and poly bushings even though mine are only a month old.
first and formost, towel over the tank!!!! for the cables you loosen them and they pull out, then after re assembly, take out the slack with the throttle, then the idle, done
if you run into any issues post up we can help you, if yoiu need it shoot me a PM and i can get you my number if you need to talk something though
on the cable when u pull them apart to put new grips on
be sure not to lose the little cable ferrules ! they are brass and go on the ends of the cables to the grip - if u lose these youll never find them , so be careful when u get to them.. grease the new throttle bar end ... should be easy install , take ur time dont rush ..
If the cables are not pre-lubed, your going to want to lube them. For the running the wires through the bars a small amount of car wash on the entire sleeve works very well for sliding through the bars. The new grips, if you are glueing the clutch side sit on bike and put grip in desired position or your gonna be mad when it glues if it has a design like some iso grips
Friends don't let friend use ISO grips..... bad personal experience! !
If your bike is a 2012 and up, your internal wiring is cake due the new CAN setup for controls. There is enough factory length for 16" apes on 1.5" risers. If its 2011 and under, you be doing it the old school way. Stagger your splices, make sure your bars don't shear the wiring's insulation coating.. some not so quality bars have sharp edges where the wiring enters and exits the bars.
Take your time, listen to some good tunes and if in doubt, post up!
Also, if you're changing out the clutch cable as well, the little screw on collar where the cable enters the clutch housing is offset, ie it screws in at an angle, not straight into the side of the housing, so take care screwing it back in or your gonna need more than beer....
Man I was hoping to give you a good tip my wrench buddy showed me. Ill give it to you anyway!
When taking your throttle cables off, it is a lot easier to get them out of the the throttle grip if you prop the butterfly valve open on the throttle body. Same goes for the install.
