Default New apes!

I currently have 10" t-bars. ( Which will be for sale shortly)I just bought my 16" bars. I know I need new cables. What else will I need before I start? Basically a checklist for installing apes. You guys who have done this, which parts can I re use? I.e. grips switches and so forth. Any help would be appreciated.

Paul

I put on 16's and used all stock cables. Been running like this for 15k miles or so. I had to straighten out the 90 degree bend in the throttle cable. Removed the idler cable just because. Re-routed the front brake and clutch cables. Switches and controls are going to work. You may need to extend the wiring depending on shape of your apes and running them internally. I did not have too!

JaronB, could you help me understand why you removed the idler cable? Trying to follow your reasoning and what the consequences are. Installing 16" bars this weekend and I agree with you that I too, could make the stock brake, throttle and clutch work. Thanks in advance.

Poly bushings $25.00-$40.00, if you are changing the riser(s). And also think about what you are going to do with your turn signals, if you are keeping them.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm actually already ahead of ya on those things. I'm just the type of guy that likes to work with what he's got. Purchasing a cable kit isn't an issue. Just was curious how this guy made his stock stuff work. However, there is one thing keeping me from buying a cable kit and that is that all the extended cable kits appear to be too long to me. They have all this extra cable that appears to be unnecessary. However, I am in no rush with the build. I am sure I will make the right decision when it is time to install the new trees, risers and bars. Thank you.

I tried to make my stock cables work like the other guy did but my throttle cable snapped when I tried to straiten it, and it still wasnt even close to being long enough. plus I think it looks like getto trash like that anyways. no offense to the other guy who did it that way I just like a little more professional look on my bike. I ended up ordering custom lenght cables but I cant remember where I got them.

Depending in your bike, you shouldn't need wire extensions. With clutch cable replacement you'll need clutch cover gasket and oil. Poly bushings as mentioned for the new risers and tall apes.
