Ok guys I currently still have the stock rear wheel still on my bike. It is a 17x4.5. I can get a crossbones rim for $187 dollars which is a 17x6 and have it laced to my hub locally for $100 which will allow me to run a 200/55r17 tire. My question is can I reuse the stock spokes since it is still a 17 inch rim and same hub or will I have to buy different spokes since the wheel is wider? The shop that can relace it is not sure since it is a Harley and they are a metric shop.
The spokes will fit. Rim width has nothing to do with it.
Lacing the wheel is really easy. Narrow glide hubs can be more of a challenge, but typical wide glide style hubs are a breeze.
The key is to mask off the rim so you don't scratch it, and have a couple of rubber bands handy. The process is the same for all harley rims except the narrow glides, so the process from any harley shop manual will work.
The metric bike shop that is going to true the wheel will need the rim/hub offset spec. This tells them where to put the rim in relation to the hub. It is slightly different for some bikes.
check with a dirt bike shop to true it, way way cheaper in most cases than HD dealer... I charge $65 to lace and $65 to true, a bit on the higher side i know but this way the customers that send in wheels can have changes made with hoops and what not, powder, and have a bolt back in application.
They are the same spokes. H-D part #43052.05A, used on both Cross-Bones and 17 inch Dynas.
From what I gather this is for the complete set on one wheel, correct? According to New Castle HD online site, it looks like they can be used on both 16" and 17" rims.
Post up some pics when your done I want to do the same with mine!! Been looking into it but have not done so yet. Waiting for rear tire to ware out which is going to be sooner than later.
