hey everybody!
I'm just curious on how easy it would be to install 12" apes on my 2013 street bob.. I wanted to go with 14" apes but i figured i will stick with 12" so i can save 1000 dollars on the installation and new cables.. I'm going to stick with the stock existing cables that are already made for the 12" apes that come with the bike.. Just curious if anyone has installed apes and grips by themselves and how easy it will be or if I should just have harley davidson install it (scared of how much they will charge me)
thanks again everyone!
The 2013 Street Bobs come with 12" apes? My 07 came with 10" ones. The stock cables on mine still worked with the 14" apes although they were pretty tight. I still use the stock throttle and idle cables, just had to bend the metal elbows to do it.
very easy on the 12 and up dynas, you dont need to take apart the connections anymore...use the search function, you will find your answer should take you less than 2 hours to do the swap.
the 2013 comes stock with 12" mini-apes. Not sure what changing them out for 12" will get you, you could save a bunch more by just leaving the 12" ones that are there... there. As for swapping them... not that easy. I just did it twice and not a fun project. The only thing worse then doing an internally wired handlebar swap??? Doing it a second time
I went with 16" apes, same style, but the bonanza bars. All stock cables and wiring. I just had to straighten out the 90 degree bend on the throttle cable. Just took re-routing the clutch cable and brake line. 12's should be no problem especially since stock is 12". Mine were 10" stock. Been running like this since 2008
i did the exact same bars on my bob....absolutely love them. pretty easy install. toughest part is just getting the wires to feed through the tubes, it just takes some patience. the stock wires fit just fine, and i put new grips on while i was at it too.
