Had my DK Customs stealth bear trap pegs show up this afternoon, extremely fast shipping (I placed the order late Wednesday afternoon).
They went on easy enough, I didn't have a socket that was thin enough to use to adjust the spin on the pegs (but my trusty leatherman took care of that).
The set was missing one washer that goes between the 2 nuts inside the peg (used for adjusting the ease of spin on the peg) not a big deal, can pick up a washer at Home Depot no problem.
I am very impressed with the quality of these pegs, I haven't tested them out on a ride yet, but I'll take the bike out tomorrow to see how they are when riding (I've heard nothing but good things), and on Wednesday I'll be riding 200 miles so I should be able to see how comfortable they really are on that ride.
I love my Bear Trap Pegs! I installed mine back in May and I couldn't be happier. They are like having mini floorboards. The grip on them is excellent. Anywhere I stick my foot on them, it sticks. It really helps on the longer rides.
I am extremely interested in getting a set for my bike. I don't yet have forward controls installed though.
Am I correct in assuming that I should install both for the best comfort?
I'm about to take my bike out in a few mins to test out the pegs, so I can't comment on the comfort of them yet (although as you can see everyone who has them seems to love them).
As far as forwards that really depends on your size and what you find comfortable, I had to go with forwards because of my exhaust, I find the forwards to be a very comfortable natural position to put my legs in.
These are the same ones I plan to get for my bike. I wasn't totally sold until your pic. They look grayish in the pics on their site, but those bad boys are def blacked out. Looks good.

Trust me. You'll like them.
The only issue I had was some scraping in slow turns. Excellent grip though.
