Yes, heim ends are the way to go.
I did my stock rod at 10K, was very loose. Shortened the rod, threaded 5/16" end and good to go for a long time.

If you have difficulties a "harley shift linkage extension" is the search term you would need.
They are about $20 and extend most shift rods by 1.5 to 4 inches.

Not much pressure on it so why not mock up something yourself and use the stock ends.
Be creative, a drill, drill bits, tap is about all you need. Paint or powder coat.

Agreed, no matter what rod you use, heim joints are the way to go for the end.

Here's some better pricing on them. Clicky

If you have difficulties a "harley shift linkage extension" is the search term you would need to make rod longer.
They are about $20 and extend most CHROME shift rods by 1.5 to 4 inches.
Since the post is not clear if what you require is the heim joints or rod there are several inexpensive options on ebay.
Type "Heim Joint Rod End 5/16" with bolts for Harley Davidson" on Ebay and race_basics has both heim joints for under $10 delivered with bolts.. Those fit a standard rod.

I gave him the measurements, emailed him my design and he CNC it and polished it with heimi joints, Mine was for mid controls, so it was smaller, but Harley wants $110 for one to replace the crappy brass looking rod.
128Auto had him make a nice black powder coated one for his forward controls. Looks sweet!
