Default 40K Service

Just picked up my 2007 FXDC getting the 40K service. Total cost was $591.55 (with Syn3) and misc charges including the Fork oil. Labor was $450. I was shocked at the labor price, but I guess there is a lot of work to be done on the forks. I ride about 10K a year and fear the 50K service. Maybe I'll just get a Honda junker to run around town with. They said I'll need a new rear tire soon, 160/17. I know that installed is $412 or so. Only have 7K on the rear now. I want a Breakout but just looking at the rear tire alone would cost $1000 probably. I miss the old days. Ride safe!

$412 for a rear tire. That's ridiculous.

If I didn't do my own maintenance I couldn't afford to own a Harley.

+1 most dealers around here charge 100 an hour, paying to have even basic maint done adds up quick...

The last back tire I did cost less than 200, the tire cost 160 shipped to my door, and a local rice indy shop mounted and balanced it for $35, with me removing the wheel...

Forget the junker, just get a jack and a manual and your good to go. These bikes are not that hard to work on and that tire shouldn't set you back more than 200bucks if you do it yourself

The tire didn't cost $450. The tire cost $237.65, Dunlop K591 160/70b17. The tube cost 31.95, rim band 4.95, labor 90 plus tax =$412.27.
