Default Fxdxt triple trees

I got a set of oem fxdxt trees. One steering stop is broken off. Can this be fixed?

I sheered off a steering stop on my KX 125 and had it welded up, reshaped with a file and powder coated.

Probably cheaper to just buy a new one though.

Yeah i suppose so if you can find a good welder. If a new tree is still available i bet it ain't cheap. They are different from the stock FXD trees in case anyone is wondering about that.

These trees are obsolete items so hard to find. I talked to one welder at work said might work, I just wanted a second opinion. Anyone have first hand experience with welding a steering stop?

Another option I heard of was drill and tapping a 5/16 hole then installing an allen head bolt. Anyone use this method?

I have seen that done as well, usually looks better than the weld and file method.

I have filled and welded more that a few... then grind to shape and polish up.
Hard to tell they where broken.
I will try and snap a pic if one of the bikes I done comes by the shop.

I check eBay regularly for FXDXT parts and saw a set a couple of days ago but not now. I guess you have tried LSHD1, I just got a new faring in primer for mine so some parts are still available for our bikes!

This is the route I would take, I am a fabricator and my FXDX uses bolted stops on the tree, you probablyy have a drill and might just need to pick up a quality bit, take your time and use cutting oil, then you can use grade 8 bolts to prevent future shear, I believe you can order grade 8 allen head (socket head) bolts from HD
