Default Security system lamp

While out in Glacier NP this past August I was coasting slowly down a slight grade (bike in neutral) when I noticed the security system lamp was lit, (bike does not have a security system), approx 400 yrds later came to a stop sign slipped it into 1st gear and took off, light went out. All the way home and ever since light hasn't come on again. Bike is an 09 Low Rider, 40,000 mi any ideas as to why this might have happened? Any input appreciated.

I have a 13 fxdc with security system. About two weeks ago I went for 300 mile ride and a round red kite lit up about two times on the ride back. Mine has security system. When I hot back I looked at the manual and said that light comes on when there are problems with the electrical system. Thought about the ride and light came up when I was charging my phone though the battery tender and came off when I decelerated the bike. Maybe you have similar case. Haven't had the light come on since or charged my phone. Will do when it's really necessary.

Had the same thing happen to mine while coasting slowly in a patriot guard funeral procession. I don't have a security system either. Looked it up online and a lot of people had the same thing happen while coasting/riding at slow speeds for more than a few minutes. I unhooked the battery for a while to reset it and haven't had it happen again.

Not good to coast in neutral. You lose oil pressure. ECM does not like it and can throw codes.

Good to know, thanks for your reply. But I question the difference between idling on the kickstand for 45 sec or coasting for 45 sec.

Ive coasted for miles in the Smokies and never thrown a code, light nor had a probem. Since your bike is idleing you should have enough presure if not you need to check oil level or increase your idle speed.

I have never had the light come on. If it did the first thing I would do is check for any trouble codes and go from there.

Ok, I have feedback on these issue and will probably have to contact my dealer.

Just got back from a 5 hour drive and had that red light come up again. Before I go on, last week while riding with some friends, one pointed out that I was pressing my breaks while accelerating. Not true but made me think it could be related. Bak to the 5 hr drive. Got the light again, and some how when I decelerated, not breaking, just letting the revs fall to see if it was the alternator, the light went off. Later on it showed up again but as I decelerated it wouldn't come off. Break lights came to my mind from my friends comment so I just pushed my front break handle forward just to test, and light immediately went away. Happened two more times and as soon as I pushed my break away from my throttle, light went away. Speed was 80 mph when it lit up.
Any suggestions or solutions?

You have a faulty Body Control Unit (BCU)

It's the electronic brain for all non engine related electronics. Somehow the security systems cause the BCU to fail in strange ways. I bet it's from techs hot-swapping components.

It happened to my bike when it was new and several others have experienced similar red-light issues.
