Default Dyna Repairs

So, last night I'm sitting in a left turn lane watching the dummy in front of me slowly then suddenly turn left in front of oncoming traffic. The inevitable collision deflects the oncoming car and sends it straight towards me. I jump off my bike to the right a split second before the oncoming car sideswipes me and my scoot. My bike and I fall to the ground avoiding significant injury and/or damage. Another motorist and I pick my bike up but had to keep it leaned over slightly to keep the tank and the left handlebar off the other car. I move it off the roadway and see scratches to my right side mirror, mirror stem, brake lever, rider and passenger pegs, and both mufflers. Fairly minor cosmetic damage. Everything else is in working order with no scratches to the paint and nothing broken. So I stay for a police report, count my Christmas blessings, and ride home to my family. Been riding for 8 years and this is the first time I've ever had a bike go down. We all knew it would happen sooner or later... At this point it looks as though the at-fault driver's insurance will take care of replacing my damaged parts and I remain fit for duty. My local HD dealer is within my insurance provider's network and supposedly have a good working relationship. I need to drop my bike off at their service department and go through the process of an estimator coming out and negotiating with my dealer. Supposedly my bike may sit at the shop for up to 10 working days until replacement parts are agreed upon and ordered. Then who knows how much longer until parts are received and replaced. Anyone else care to share their insurance and damage repair woes? Just trying to put a time frame on how long my third garage space will be empty. Thanks.

Glad you are ok. Your dealer will work with the insurance co and make it all good.

I bought a 2013 Road King (last bike) stuck 8k in aftermarket in it .. had it perfect. It was the best bagger in town.
65 mph .... bam crushed a deer .. didnt go down just sliced right threw it. The story is told in the RK section. ... Anyway long story short at 700 miles my baby was in the shop for 3 months. New frame ect you name it.

Out of all that ya it sucks just like your situation. But just thank God you are ok.

glad your ok, all depends on your insurance we have done a few insurance repair jobs always have the stuff out in about a week dpeneding on the job

Have the at fault driver's insurance put a bike in your third garage while yours is in the shop. Someone rearended my 3 month old F150 Lariat 10 days ago. It will be in the body shop for a week having the rear fender cut off the bed and new bumper paint etc.. They will provide me a vehicle while mine is down.

I had a Triumph Speed Triple sit at an independent shop for three months. I'm sure your experience will be better than mine.

My last bike 2007 sporty 1200C near totaled, six months!!
Getting parts from harley takes awhile especially a tank.

Why are you placing it through your insurance if you were not at fault?
The dealer can complete the estimate but remember you can complete the repairs yourself.
Labor costs are huge.
Part cost are high also especially if you can later find discount pricing and not full retail.
The check can be made to you if the bike is paid.
If the bike is not paid then sometimes the check is made to the dealer and requires that you sign.
Reconsider if it would be possible to get the check directly to you.
The at fault individual should be supplying you with transportation...a rental car.
If the bike was struck by a vehicle then the damage is very likely much more than you have reported.
For some reason everyone always forgets the scratched helmet, torn gloves, torn jeans etc...people forget the whole back and forth to dealer (gas or towing).
Not trying to make money off the situation but instead just being fair and brought back to before the incident.

Some great suggestions to consider. My insurance rep told me they would basically battle with the at-fault driver's insurance to get my bike repaired. So, I won't have to pay a deductible or any other cost out of my own pocket. Wouldn't labor costs be included in an estimate that would have to be paid by the other person's insurance? If that's the case, I don't have a problem with HD making money off their insurance as far as labor is concerned.
