Looks to me that the return spring is not a separate piece from the throttle body. eBay may be the route to a take-off TB. Unless you have a real good relationship with your local H-D parts guy.
How is it "failing"? is the spring physically broken, or is it possible you accidentally hit/turned your throttle lock making it seem like its not returning?
Spring is not broken physically, throttle lock is back out all the way. Spring doesn't provide any "snap" back, I have lubed the cables and set the cables per manual. Spring seems very loose around the housing.
So on further inspection I removed the cables and the butterfly part snaps close. attach the cables and with slack in the cables it closes no issues. I am guess the interferance is in the switch housing. Looks like it could use a good cleaning. Any link on how to disassemble the switches from the housing?
thanks
Pat

Get a small piece of cardboard to slip in between the brake lever and the brake light switch. Then remove the pivot pin to remove the lever. Then unscrew the housing screws. Be careful with the brake light switch, it is very delicate and only held in by a small V-shaped spring. I don't know what grips you have, but it is possible that the throttle grip is screwed up and you may be buying some new ones. It has happened to me. There is a thread or 2 on this in here somewhere.
MIne was fine until I put the new bars on. It still snaps back but is sluggish. I took off the grip and sprayed graphite where the grip goes. (thats what the HD manual says) and made a big f ing mess. Adjsuted the cables and nothing seems to really help. I'm thinking the chrome may be too thick on the handlebars.
How do you screw up a throttle grip and how do you know its screwed up?
