I have a Super Glide and I've had it about 2 years. I love it.I ride mostly country roads and some highway. My rides are mostly in the 200-300 mile range. I think if I was planning to ride longer more I would go to a touring model, but I have no problem gettin on for a 400 mile day on my FXD. My last bike was a dirt bike. I have been riding dirt and street for about 20 years, this is my first Harley. Life starts when you get one.
Think you just said it. This is my 3rd Harley but I think it will be my last one as it should last a long time. My first one was a 89 FLH and then the 03 Sporty 1200 and now the 04 Low Rider. It better be my last one or I will be sleeping with it.
I sat on em' all . To me the Wide GLide fit better than the RK or any other, so I chose the WG. I think the RK would be better for long hauls but I love my WG and I'm very comfortable on it and will take it anywhere.
It comes down to your personality and your comfort. Buy what feels right for you.
once i put forward controls and a badlander seat, and drag pipes (hell yeah) my 05 lowrider rocks. no complaints...it's a badass. very comfortable ride, used to ride rockets so I appreciate the response and feedback the bike offers. At 5'9 the stock seat was way uncomfortable for prolonged rides. and you will soooo want the forward controls. like it was made for me.
Tell me about the badlander seat. Did you do anything with air filter or carbuation when you added the drag pipes? I'll be doing a stage one on my Low Rider come 1000 miles but the forward controls will have to come later. The bike does have highway pegs to practice with.
I think I would stick with the Dyna family or a Road Glide (for myself) since they have the 88A motor. It may vibrate a bit when stopped, but when you are at speed, it is very smooth and powerful. It may be just me, but it seemed like the Softail motor, the 88B, was the opposite. Smooth at idol, but kind of buzzy at hiway speeds. I tried sitting on a Wide Glide, but I did not like the bars and I dont care for the bob-tail fender too much. I have a 05 Low Rider that I put a Vance and Hines Pro Pipe on, along with a SE Stage 1 and the re-map of the EFI. Sure was a noticable jump in throtle response and a really nice, low rumble. To each his own.
drag pipes sound mean as hell man. had a friend tell me it sounded like a much bigger motor. said it "sounded like a custom." yeah they rejetted it, installed the thunder slide, filter upgrade. Only weigh a buck and a half, suprised with the performance though speed is not my goal. that **** damn near killed me.
the seat is much narrower than stock. reveals much more of the fender, supports, shocks. doesn't look very comfortable, feels hard to hand when you touch but that seat rocks. flatter seat spreads your weight out to your legs or something I think. only have a couple hundred miles with it but as right now...like was made for me. haven't had any passenger response yet...factory seat isn't to passenger friendly anyhow. at 5'9 the factory seat, good for heads up riding in the city, sucked on longer, faster rides. have I already said this? that last brain cell...
