Default Carb question....

I am asking this on behalf of a buddy, as well as for myself since there is a real chance I'll need to go down this road myself...

Bike is a 77 FXE, ( I am currently seriously looking into a '76 FXE purchase).

Engine is strong and in good working order, so I'd like to know what is the general consensus on the best Carb for a bike of this vintage?

Not worried about the whole stock versus molested argument. My buds bike has been well and truely molested already, and if I get into the FXE I am looking at, I'll molest it too.

My bud is currently running an older S&S carb, not sure of the year or type, it was on there when bought the bike several years ago, but is looking to upgrade it to something better if possible.

Also, what intake recommendations are worth looking into?

TIA, 8's

Nothing wrong with the Harley CV carbs. They do a very good job and are easy to tune.

If you just have to spend some money then get a Mikuni but there's quite a variation in jets to get it right and I'd recommend getting it setup on a dyno.

Harley CV, S&S Super E, or Mikuni HSR 40/42 all three will be good solid platforms to run and easy to tune

+1 All will work. I'm partial to the S&S E.

I've always liked the stock Bendix carbs that they came with. The bike starts easy, carb's simple and cheap to rebuild and they run great IMO.
