I personally wouldn't weld it, then machine cost cheaper too buy new,,,as seeing it could go bang any time and cause more damage, its called buyer beware guys the first clue was why was the starter motor removed??? I suspect the previous owner knew there was a big issue ,,, Just fix it properly one time and then you can enjoy the thing

I'm no expert but would never weld a cracker clutch basket. Lots of stress put on the basket plus the risk of something cracking worse and locking up your drive could be deadly risk.

As far as going back to seller, investigating, etc......... Your gonna was bunch of time and money. I bet money nothing else is wrong cause of the basket failure (you still drove it with the cracked basket).

Get a new basket of your choice and you'll be back in business tearing up the streets.

The starter was still on the bike when I got it. I took it off when i got it home. He informed me it needed a new starter before I came, He was actually a really cool dude. I really dont think he knew there was another problem besides the starter. Plus I've bought/sold a lot of used bikes. I know once I hand over the cash, that I'm inheriting any problems that come with the thing.

But thanks for the input everyone! I ended up buying a used, stock clutch basket for $100 on ebay. If it happens again then ill do it right with an aftermarket one. I'm just tight on funds right now after purchasing the bike.

So now I just need to buy a new starter. I'm thinking about getting the 1.75 kw Thunder Fire starter. Does anyone have any input on these? Thanks!

The seller was aware of a starter problem, starter not engaging the ring gear due to a missing tooth. By your own admission you tend to "wring" out the bike/power train. Is it possible you might have cracked the clutch basket, possibly. But people build up the engine without (sometimes) thinking about the rest of the powertrain. Maybe the seller will might meet you half way. Pre-owned is a fancy term for used and generally the buyer buys the used side. Maybe there is a dealership near you that has "garage sales" and you can get a basket like that or a swap meet?
