I can confirm that. Had a HD-Dyna Touring windscreen with QD and the buffetting was horrible.

The Flyscreen is fantastic, removes the bulk of air from your chest leaving the head in a full streem un undisturbed air. No buffeting at all and the bike looks much better too. See my pic below.

so flyscreen will give a smooth stream to the face? I understand that for buffeting, but I also ride with halfhelmet and am trying to avoid dirt and bugs. Im looking to send this kind of smooth stream above my head, Im 6 ft tall and ride with a straight back. taller flyscreen? will that defeat the purpose? angle?

I was looking at that 18" quick release HD windshield. I used to have one on the sporty and quickrelease is the key because I dont always want the high speed bug and dirt deflection/protection. I could ride with that but is there an optimal customize? some flyscreen adapted to the QR?

Hey chamba, I think you are going to have to go bigger. I have a sporty roadster, dyna fxdx, and 2 hardly davidsons ( they are such good sporty copies the HD QR windshields clip right on) I have switched around 2 HD QR 18" , a 14" HD QR, an HD quarter fairing, and a fly screen. After numerous resets the dyna has the 14 inch which puts the air bubble just at the top of my helmet (I'm 5'10")- it probably would be better at 16 ". The sporty has the 18" and the bubble goes over the top and I see over the shield. The hardlys have the short screens and wind is right on the helmet windshield. Since one is used as a scooter and the other as an airport bike the short screens are fine, no long distance, 100 miles max.

I think the important info in this thread is regarding the effect of the air under the windshield on buffeting. I block the slot over the fender with a leather tool bag and that cuts out a lot of the air. On long trips I use a tank bag to kill buffeting over the tank.

kokemill, you nailed it with some great info.... thank you. I was thinking I could use a wind shield bag for the same purpose btwn the light and the shield. but the over stream is so far unknown to me and the product is unreturnable....so dilema. on my sporty the 18" was fine, but this is my Dyna and I want great, not fine. I assume the 18" is good enough, and at first look I could see over it which is what I want. The air stream over my head is important for dust and bugs to stay out of my eyes...
On another note JP cycles had a "memphis shades hell cat handlebar mount windshield"... does anyone have any experience with this handlebar mount windshield as far as the stream of air going over the head of a 6' person? I'll figure out the buffeting problem if there is any....
it has been a while since I posted and Im happy to be back on the forum and able to upgrade again.

I left out one detail, due to the lower seat height on the Dyna the 18 inch puts the top edge directly in my line of site. At 6 foot, unless you have a really big forehead :-) , I think you would see right over it. FWIW, I spent the weekend riding (500 miles) around the south shore of Lake Michigan with what looked like a stock windshield. I thought that overall there was more buffeting on the Roadking than either the dyna and sporty. My best guess is the extra width of the Roadking windshield although it could be the wide handle bars- I have narrow bars setup for California lane splitting.

Do dealers have demo windshields like they do for seats?

no demos.... and no returns... any comment on the memphis shades hell cat handlebar mount windshield? it looks like an 18in situation too, but with two points of contact on the handlebars... Im gonna call jp cycles and ask a bunch of questions.

I love mine! However, it's been sitting in the closet for weeks. I don't let it come out and play when it's warm and sunny.

I use the Sport windshield from HD, all the air flow I notice comes up from under the windshield and tank area, having a beard it all gets pushed up and slaps the hell out of my face, can't wait tell its long enough to tie down. Other than that, I love the energy it save on those long trips and how much of the shot gun rain pellets to the face it keeps away.

I don't often use a windshield, but when I do it's a Clearview 21" on a HD QR frame with leather windshield bag.

No buffeting, look through the shield, for cold weather riding.
5' 10" and ride pretty slouched.
