Default High speed wobble

Put a set of Night Dragons on my bike a couple few weeks ago. Was out on I-95 last week and around 80 to 90 MPH I got a wobble. Nothing like an *** puckering tank slapper, but still got my attention.

Only thing I changed was a front wheel spacer. When I went to put the front wheel back on I noticed about a 1/4" gap between the fork and spacer. I have a box of old spacers, so I put a 1/4" on in to fill the gap.

My bike doesn't have the factory hub, so the factory spacers dont get it.

Friends at the indy shop thinks it's wheel bearings, and told me to bring it in tomorrow and they'll check them all out.

Bike rode perfect before the tire change, and the added 1/4" spacer is the only thing I changed. Been raining damn near non stop to take it out for a high speed ride minus the extra spacer.

Could something as minor as the 1/4" spacer make a damn difference?

Tons of threads on here regarding Harley wobbling... I've heard motormounts.. running a bias ply on the front with a radial in the back... etc etc... but let us know if your spacer replacement fixed the issue. I am doing a tire wheel swap and am hoping to avoid anything like this..

Were the tires balanced?
When was the last time you checked the spoke tightness?
Is the wheel running true?

Bought new Night Dragons front and rear.

Wheels were balanced, and he checked the rear spokes, not sure about the front.

My stock hub and spacer has a gap on the left side (looking at bike) between spacer and fork. Maybe about .125". Axle and spacers installed per manual. Also running night dragons front and rear. No wobbles.

Any other vehicles around during your 90 mph sprints? Doesn't take much for turbulent air coming off vehicles in front of you to push you around. May have been paying to much attention to the new tires.

I'd been fighting a wobble for weeks after my last rubber change too. Turned out to be rear pressure low - might be worth a double or triple check.

Did you put on a different rim at the same time or is this the same wheel you were already running? I'd think that if it were the same wheel you would be able to use the same axle spacers. If you had to add something with the same wheel that might have something to do with your problem.

My next question is what tire pressure are you running? I always use the MAX PSI listed on the side of the tire. I had a tank slapper issue with an under inflated Avon front tire one time. Aired up to a proper pressure and the issue was gone.

Next is are the wheels balanced and if so how? Next is check the directional arrows on the tires to ensure all is mounted correctly. next is check steering head bearings and motor mounts. Last but not least ensure your rear axle is lined up nice and straight.

Good luck.

I took the 1/4" spacer out, and tightened the steering head a bit.

Had a break in the rain and rode it about 20 miles. Most of the way was between 75 to 80 MPH, but I was coming up on a semi and passed it at 90 and had zero wobble.

Not sure which fixed it, and really don't care!

For the record my favorite riding is back roads doing 55 to 60. I hate riding on the expressways, but I have to ride to Orlando and Jax a lot, so....

I'm guessing the spacer messed up your alignment some.
Glad you got it straightened out.
