Default Thinking about a Dyna?

I have an 02 Sportster that I just can't get comfortable on.

I jumped on a few Dynas in my local HD showroom (used) and liked the way a few fit me, mostly a 02 Wide Glide or Low, I'm not sure which, nor can I tell most of the Dynas apart.

What can anyone tell me about the Dyna V/S Sportster and any years to stay away from. I'm not looking for the fastest thing but, don't want to be left in the dirt either.

Thanks.

Personally I'd get an 07 or later. You will get 96 CI engine, six speed transmisssion, 49 mm forks, EFI etc...

Cheers,

Tom

I came from a sporty to my current dyna. I couldn't be happier with the switch. The dyna will give you the same fun factor if you like the twisties but is much more comfortable at higher speeds then the sporty. Your 02 must beat you up pretty good not being rubber mounted. Here is the lowdown on the dynas:
Street bob for the blacked out look.
Superglide custom for the blinged out look.
Fat bob for the best handling and the dual disc brakes.
dyna low for shorter people.
dyna wide glide for the stretched out look (probably the least handling of the dynas)

I think your going to have to get a 07 or newer to get the 96 motor and the 6 speed.
You can get a nice 07 superglide for around 6500-7000 if you look around enough on the private party adds.

Do it, you'll never look back

I moved up to the Dyna world from a 99' XLH Sportster to a 02 Dyna Super Glide, since then the 02 has been warmed up with a 95" kit and some cams, I also acquired a 05 Low Rider with EFI, it's quick due to the EFI system but primarily stock engine. The weight of the Dynas will not be affect by most truck turbulence. I rode the 02 in the black hills two up and felt real solid on the turns. In 2013 I moved up to a Road Glide Ultra for maximum two up touring.

I moved up from a 09 Sportster XL1200C to the 2012 Superglide in the pic. With the mods I have done and with the six speed trans cruising on the turnpike or interstate is a breeze, engine just putting along and going 75 mph.

Well I picked up a 06 street bob that I just love. There is a problem with the 06' dyna regarding the primary bearing. I wish I had done more research before my purchase but I'm still having fun with it. Great bike!

Rode a 2003 sporty for years. Now riding a 2002 wide glide. No comparison when it comes to comfort. 02 wide glide is a recliner on 2 wheels.
