I took mine and got it powdercoated. It looks pretty damn good. Powdercoating parts on my ride is like an addiction now. I'll try to put some pics up soon. I couldn't find one either, so I got it done myself. They can either do it in a gloss or wrinkle. If anybody lives in NE Tn, SW Va, or Western N.C, HY-TEC Specialties in Piney Flats Tn does great work!
Have to agree with the previous post. Powdercoating is addictive. Just sent my old take off wrinkle black speed/tach housing and tank trim panel off to Joe for black gloss powder.
I found a pretty passable replacement for wrinkle black powdercoating is spray on truck bed liner paint...
Off my Sportster:
I just scuffed the surfaces with 800 grit to help the paint stick and sprayed a degreaser on it to clean it then layed down a good couple coats of high temp primer followed by the bed liner. The stuff is very durable. I got hit on this bike at 50 on the freeway by an SUV after this was done and the forward control on the left side hit the primary cover hard enough to put a hole through it that's about 3" long. The paint around the hole did not get scratched or flake off! The only spot where some of the paint came off was one little dime-sized spot next to the derby cover which probably hadn't been propery degreased.
I don't know how it would stick to chrome...or if you're going for the wrinkle black kind of look...but it's an option.
As for the dash, I thought about getting a black WG when I bought mine and just have my buddy who painted my Sportster paint it up but one of the things that swayed me was the dash...I love the black dash on mine. Sorry.
