electrical problems
hello, so i'm dealing with a problem that never seems to end. i have a 2012 harley sportster 1200 seventy two. i had recently replaced my fuel injectors and ever since then i've had problems starting my bike. mind you gas went all over so i understand why problems could happen. my problem is no matter how long i ride the bike every single time it's shut off i have to disconnect the positive terminal on my battery and reconnect it to start it. the reason i can't seem to figure out what it is is because it makes absolutely no noise trying to start that first time after sitting. i have no click or even sign that i'm hitting the start button. i have tried almost everything i can think of. i have replaced spark plugs, battery, positive and negative terminal rings, voltage regulator, re-wired my headlight (thought there was a voltage drop due to older bulb), all fuses and the two relays. i'm at a loss because i have no sound to go off of. if anyone has any other options please let me know i'm really sick of disconnecting my battery every single stop.
What was it doing before you replaced fuel injectors that you decided to replace them?
Assume you have a meter. When it doesn't start, check for 12.6 on battery lead, then punch wire on cables to check for voltage.
Then at big positive at starter.
Hit start and see if you have any voltage at small positive lead at starter on solenoid.
Any time you work on a FI, always pull fuel pump relay and run motor till it dies. Especially, if you pop connect at tank. Under pressure, it can dislodge upper o-ring making a leak when you go back.
There is a replacement kit but it's a hit and miss getting it back up in there the first time.
PS..
For sure..
Welcome Nick.
Hope you enjoy your ride here.
Only as a suggestion, create a signature
line for your bike, year, model, and all the
code letters. Ever have a question, that info
is necessary.
You can add that bike photo to the signature too.
And as a suggestion , make sure you make your next new post over in the new member welcome area to say hello..
