ok lets see how good you are need serious help i have a 62 sportster converted to points generator with electronic voltage regulator after i ride about 50 miles an stop and sit for an hour more or less i go to start and battery is low either it cranks slowly or not at all just clicking sounds the lights are brite and horn is strong i've checked all connections and checked generator all is fine there battery is new could it be voltage reg. is'nt up to par or should i go to a points type reg. regulator is new also
please help as im pulling my hair out whats left of it thanks
Have you checked if you're charging the battery. If you're charging the battery then the voltage at the terminals should be higher when the bike is running than when the bike is turned off.
I assume by your description that it'll restart while warm, but not once it cools. Also that if you charge the battery, stick it back on the bike and leave it set it'll start fine.
ok to answer no it wont start warm or cold unless i push start or get a jump then recharge the battery will check voltage to see if its chargin but i think i might have found problem i noticed oil on starter connection from batt. i've now cleaned connection and used battery terinal protective spray will let you know if works thank you
still havin problem was wondering should i go with a bosh reg.electronic reg. on it now i really dont like electronics at all but is it possible to use a bosh reg?
ok now i found problem was checkin reg. unplugged connector and the bat.pin was broke due to corrosion i have since cut off both plugs and soldered wires now im getting a charge but its not much she will hold a charge of 14.2 with lights on low beam on high beam she drops with lights off it charges only a point every 30-45 seconds is this all normal?
ok earlier i talked about a charging problem i found the problem on my new electronic reg.only 5 months old with 3 pin plug when i unplugged it i found heavy corosion and the batt.pin had corroded through and left a piece of its pin in harness plug i have since cut off both plugs and wired and soldered connections together its now charging but i think its not chargin at specs. it does get up to 14.8 volts but doesnt seem fast enough lihgts on and lights off with lights on hihg beam it drops in volts and wont build up in volts i drove it 50 miles and when i got home and checked it after i shut it off it only read 13.5 those miles i drove where highway miles at 70 mph so i need to know is something wrong here i kinda think so but need info on it any help would be great thanks
