Hey guya and girls. Im in the middle of an led conversion on my 1999 fxdx. Tail light/turns integrated, front turns and head light. Head light ia dont and functioning great. Problem lies in my turns. Rear right turn signal functioning perfectly with a resistor in line but the left refuses to blink. Stays solid and resistor gets sizzling hot. (Got a nice blister on my index.) Front left turn signal is not on or flashing (stocker still in place) but running light performs as normal. RH front functions as normal (running, turn and 4 way). Ive read the repair manual and the test are saying turn signal control module is the culprit. Anyone have tips, pointers or advice before i locate and buy one? I hate throwing parts rather than problem solve.
Keep in mind that we have no idea of what brand of lights are being used and/or if a Run/Brake/Turn module is in play.
There is also the possibility that wiring in not stock.
Consider going back to stock and run some diagnostic tests.
For example : Tail light/turns integrated...guessing that means that REAR turn signals will have more than one function....either Brake & Turn, Turn & Running light or a triple play of BRAKE/TURN with RUNNING light.
For the rear turns signals people sometimes add a triple play module (Run/Brake/Turn ) or re-wire for dual filament.
Rear from stock are Single filament bulbs...on the rear the turn signals should be OFF and only come ON to flash for a turn.
The front turn signals are suppose to be dual filament bulbs with a constant running light ON and then the blinker will flash when requested.
On more than one occasion individuals have jammed the wrong bulb in the socket...especially if a re-wire was done before to change an 1156 bulb to an 1157 bulb.
True, i am running an Amazon tail light that functions as turn signals. In the front im using again amazon Led pods that haven't been connected yet that bolt to the forks. My right side front and rear functions completely normal after installing the resistor. Left front receives running power, no turn signal power. Rear left stays solidly lit with inline resistor which gets ridiculously hot.
Your resistor (load equalizer) wires in light another light,
1 side to the turn signal wire the other to ground.
If it's getting that hot it's not cycling on and off.
I have never heard of "Nilight" or "Rich Choices" for Harley parts, so I looked them up. AMAZON!!!!! Sorry to say, ya got what ya paid for, cheap chineseium crap.

Correct. Its not cycling on the left side or supplying power to the left front. Just got a continuity tester from "amazon". Got some tracing to do. I reinstalled the oem tail and turns to rule out the "cheap chinesium" parts... to my surprise... the problem persisted. Lol soooo cant blame the parts.

I have an acquaintance that will not stop talking about LED lights. He won't shut up about them Its an obsession really. They cane out what 25 years ago why the cult like following now? Because they're brighter? Or come on a billionth of a millisecond sooner? He has his car set up to do retarded light shows Don't get it.
None of these problems exist with incandescent bulbs, why put yourself thru this?
I know to each his own my hobbies prob seem stupid to most people too I mean who keeps bees and works on motorcycles late into the night that dont need working on?
But are thes light upgrades really worth it?

I went with LED to reduce electrical load on my 2002 Electra glide, and to increase brightness from the incandescent bulbs. Since my 2019 FLHTP only had the rear taillight and two yellow turnsignals in the rear, I decided to go with LED, red turn signal lenses and a run/brake/turn module.
The stock HD LED Day maker beam sucked so I purchased the Custom Dynamics Adaptive II headlight. Then the incandescent (stock) passing lamps were yellow, so I changed then to LED. I also changed the front turn signals for the CD white/yellow LED units. Seems to help other see me.
I know some folks like to add stuff to their bikes, and then they hardly ride. I am down to about 15000 miles a year now on my bike. The LEDs up front really help in the mountain roads at night.
