I recently purchased a dash kit for a custom softail built, the kit included a dash ignition key switch,,,the switch is a newer type 3 post switch, positions are (left acc, center off, right ign ) I was planning on a 6 pole type of set up.. cense I am running the basic wire( head lite,3 idiot lites starter button and brake and tail lite ) i like the idea of less wires to the switch...but not sure how the 3 pole is wired...can anyone help with info on this,???all ideas will be appreciated...thank,,rickydog
Well you have one hot wire in, one for acc. One for ign. Wire all that you want on acc. All you want for ign. Don't hook up anything to both it is one or the other.
The switch will handle that.
thanks HarleyCruiser for your input...I had a meter on it earlier to see whats what when I turn the key...so if I got it right from what your saying is ,,,once I have everything to their right breakers ie. acc, ign ,battery..and wired to their related spot on the switch when turn to the right ( ign) the switch will allow power to the accessories' while in the ignition position ???? if this is so it means I will be starting with lights on along with whats on the accessories tab..???

Yea wire everything to the acc that you want on when turned there, radio, park lights, turn/flashers, what ever you decide. Then wire the rest to the run. When you turn it to run, the switch will contact both the acc and the run and turn everything on.
Put the head on the run side, you dont want it on unless the bike is running, starting.
You can also just use two wires and run everything off the run side if you want. And not have anything on the acc.
I very seldom use the acc anyway.
