Engine harmonics - looking for some help
Check rocker arm end play.
Check crank TIR.
Load lifters to .140"
Bailey pressure spring or Zippers shim.
Check rocker shaft movement.
As said, check spring to cover clearence.
Proper engine oil per ambient temps per service manual.

I believe what Ed is referring to is contact between the valve spring retainer and the rocker box in the corner. In '05, beehive springs were introduced but unless you changed to beehive springs, you are running the double wound springs that are the same diameter bottom to top. Higher lift springs would often make contact, not with the rocker cover but with the lower rocker box in the corner when the valve are fully closed. If this is happening, you should be able to see witness marks in that corner. You can open up the contact area with a dremel tool.
I just went to 95" on my '06 street Bob and had this issue on the lower rocker boxes. I heard it mainly on the front exhaust valve. I opened it up and found two spots where the spring hit the lower cover. They are in line with where the bolt hole. The grind marks are what I had to do to get the cover to fit on. It took a lot more to get it right. I used a paperclip to measure the distance around the spring when I was done.
Removed rocker boxes and saw a couple contact marks where spring retainer was hitting front and rear lower box. Below is a pic of the front rocker where there was contact. Rear was similar, but a little less deep. Seeing this definitely making me feel better I took the time to tear things down and check - and not just assume the noise was normal. Also installed a set of Rockouts in the rocker assembly while I had it opened up. If they help reduce noise levels at all, they are well worth the price. I did have one problem with install I wanted to share for those who are thinking about these. First 3 Rockouts installed very quick, per instructions. Last one mushroomed on me. After removing the mushroomed Rockout, I inspected the inside of the problem bolt hole. The bore was not smooth - it had an uneven ridge protruding into the hole about 1/2 inch down from the top side. This was catching the Rockout, not allowing it insert without collapsing. Had a grinding stone about the perfect size from grinding the rocker boxes, so I cleaned up the bolt hole. Last Rockout installed normally afterwards. Just a reminder to inspect those bolt holes before install - never know what you may find.
Need to put front rocker together today, and hoping all this is the source of the noise and vibrations. Thanks for all the help.
