Pump up lifters by hand?
I just install new heads and cams on my 1200 2007 sporty.
i used s&s lifters and s&s quickee adjustable pushrods.. i'm thinking i did a s*** job of adjusting the rod length because:
the rear engine head temps go out into space (437°+) and the super scientific hand infront the the muffler test yeild a result of varied force from the front and rear pipes, rear being weaker. I think the rear clinder rods need to be adjusted again.
All this brings me to the pumping up of the lifters to full so i can. Attempt the adjustment again.
how do i do this by hand?

i get (at least i think i do) that the lifters adjust for small inequalities and expansion etc... i think.

The internal spring pressure should always raise it up when the pushrod pressure is off of it.
You can look closely and make sure the pushrod seat is against the clip. As you adjust the pushrod down you can see a space grow between the clip. you can even measure that space to see adjustment.

If you can get the pushrods all of the way out of the way. You can pull plugs and spin engine with starter. It will take one or two cycles but you will see oil pumping out of the top of each lifter. Gives the top zero lash setting a bit more feedback besides just the spring pressure.
This is basically SOP for me. It allows me to make sure I have oil pressure before I finish putting it all the way back together.

There are 2 ways to fill lifters:
1.put them in oil and pump manually or with pliers until bubbles stop and they get hard.
2.Go to NAPA (or ebay) and buy AC flush tool.
Remove oil pressure sender and pump oil thru hole.
