Connecting rod issue
I have a 1998 road glide which I bought from a friend. He was in the process of installing a 83 ci kit. I was in process of setting push rods when the engine won't make a full revolution I pulled the front cylinder off and it looks like the connecting rod looks to be hitting the bottom of the new cylinder. Is this normal ? And would it be ok to machine it
No its not normal! An 83" kit is simply a fresh set of pistons, probably higher CR than stock, at max over-size, in other words only a little larger in diameter to stock. While the cylinders may also be new they should be the same shape as the stock ones and a direct replacement. Check with your friend what brand they are and chack out their website if they have one.
were other than OEM cylinders used? like brown said, something like this whould usually be done just by boring the cylinders (rev perf. does have a cyl/piston kit,but im sure one of their cylinders would have same as OEM specs on the cylinders) & the only kits I know of are 85",not 83".ide be checking what your buddy has got going here, cuase he`s got something screwed up
