.510" is specified as max lift for '99-'04 but some have been able to run .525" after checking for coil bind. Beehive springs came in '05 and max lift is speced at .575" but some have run .590". If in doubt, check for coil bind to be sure.

so then for .585, they need to be replaced with something like:
  • SE HP valve springs 18013-0A .590 lift
  • S&S bee hive 106-5909 .650 lift
does bumping up lift to .650 put more stress on anything in the train?

If your bike is '05 or up, you can run cams with .585" with the OEM springs; no need to change.

Yeah, .650 lift will put more stress on the valve train and roller rockers should be installed. Most "street" builds don't need .650" lift cams; requires attention to detail to avoid piston to valve and valve to valve clearance issues.

You'll find most any builder you talk to won't change the springs for a .585 lift or even .590 lift cam if you have the beehives already. I only decided to go with .600 lift AV&V when I had a failure with my stock behives which I don't attribute to the cam.

7mm,beehive heads can go to .600" with stock springs, but there is a lot more to look at,for one is seat pressure.make sure it match`s what the cam calls for.second is valve to valve & valve to piston contact, this must be checked on all cam installs with more than .180 TDC lift and on all installs where bigger valves are being used, and third, make sure your compression,CID & rest of build even warrants a bigger cam.your build should be a group of parts that compliment each other, not fight against each other.we get a lot of calls to "fix" builds done by fly by night,"high performance" shops who feel bigger is better and end up with a **** running bike & way less HP/TQ than before the work was done

going with the s&s 110 cylinders, pistons, and 585ce.

if i'm not happy with my basic kit, i may ebay and send you some heads. Rob seemed pretty happy with your stage II work a few months back.

late beehive heads will easily handle 585 cams, but I would really think twice about your build with bone stock heads, saying your leaving some on the table is a understatement.heads should have at least 1.900/1630 valves if not 1.980 intakes.you could use the S&S 79cc heads, but youde have to machine the combustion chambers to releave compression,it would be WAY too high for the 585`s
