Default Oh yeah, head work time

Well here we are, first mods for me of the new year since last year was packed full. As some know I'm an absolute sucker for a project. This time around we're going with Veetwin Racing's Stage 2 heads, Fueling 574 cams (I like my Andrews 57's but hey, after the last install I wanted a chance to do it again ), Dynojet Power Vision 2, and lastly an SE 50mm throttle body with 4.9 injectors. I'm hoping to start the project next week, I'd like to do it all in a weekend to avoid downtime but with work and family may be difficult. Kirby did an awesome job packing it all up, and helping me decide what to go with. He has a great reputation for quality work. To be fair I really don't know what makes a good porting job but it seems so dang smooth!

Working on my plan of attack and steps I want to follow while ensuring I don't miss anything. Will update and do my usual lessons learned/newbie wrenching thread once I get going.

Some pics to start:

No idea yet how these compare to stock valves but they look mean

Not sure if these are good numbers but I assume so.

Good stuff Robby the heads look great. What size HG and what compression? Do you know what size runners on the 50mm TB?

I'll check the gaskets but compression is 10.5-1 and I believe the runners are 1.750". Does that make sense?

Gaskets I bet are .030". Build looks sweet, not a bagger build for sure! I bet you do really well in the hp #s. Don't see the 574s used very often so should be interesting. Hope you have a good tuner out there?

Have fun and don't rush, there are a lot of steps and you want to nail the build - enjoy the work, not a race.

Thanks Alan and true enough, you know me I'm going to enjoy every bit of the build. It's been tough to find a reputable tuner, but I just got some good feedback about a fellow around an hour and a half from me. Called Kiwi Procycle owner named Barry. I just emailed to get a feel for lead time and whether he tunes with the PV. Fingers crossed, online searching has nothing but positive experiences with him.

Excellent thread - and close to my heart as I am just in the process of putting my bike back together after doing cams and heads myself. Andrews 57H cams in mine, but I was on the fence about the 574s so will be very interested to see how you like them in comparison with the 57s. I've just got to adjust the pushrods and put the tank and stuff back on - so should get it fired up this weekend.....

I have got mine set up with a 0.030" MLS gasket so it should yield a static compression of 10:1 and a CCP of 192 or so (according to the BigBoyz calculator)

i don't want to hijack your thread - but a few more head **** pics below - gotta love this stuff!

So am I understanding you bought a second set of heads to have the work performed on? You'll want a nice scraper tool for the cylinder head gasket surface. Amazon sells plastic razor blades that should work well. Have to get that surface squeaky clean but don't want to scratch anything.

Don't ever worry about hijacking one of my threads, great pics! Any tips on the order of doing things that might make the job easier? Can't wait to hear about your build. I almost kept my 57's, I have zero complaints with them, it was just suggested that the 574's would give me a bump in both hp and tq comparatively and I just figured in for a penny in for a pound!
