Got into tearing the bike down to for some preventative maintenance, namely inner cam bearings and when I went to loosen the bolts holding the gears onto the end of the camshaft the bolt holding the larger gear was loose...it was broken about an inch down into the cam. I started hearing a new noise at the end the season but didn't expect to find this or if this is source of the noise. I also discovered that the rear bracket holding the muffler for the rear exhaust was broken so I welded that and replaced the exhaust gasket and put that back together a few weeks ago and it seemed to have taken care of the noise coming from that side. So now I'm at a crossroad. .do I just find a used set of 255s and stay with my current setup or do I take the opportunity to get something else? My biggest hangup is I just spent 600 on a dyno tune last summer. Any body have an idea of what might of caused this bolt to break like this?

There should be a lot of used but good 255s floating around.

After finding the broken bolt yesterday I figured I might as well keep the hits coming and checked the runout on my crank today. I'm pretty happy with the results...only 3 thousandths out and it's a 110 in an 08 cvo road king with just under 35k on it.

On the right path now thanks to Kirby at v twin for some cams and Nomadmax for some enlightenment. Old inner cam bearings pulled and I have a set of the screamin eagle ones but they say ina on them so I'll wait for the Torringtons to get here in a few days and then cams and I have all.my gaskets and new hardware ready to go back in ...oh and the service manual is in the mail somewhere too. I should be back together in plenty of time since it looks like we're getting some more glorious white stuff Friday...just when it had all just about melted and I thought riding was getting close.

Beagle, what tool did you use to pull the inner cam bearings?

I used the heartland inner cam bearing remover/ installer tool. At first I was thinking they sent me the wrong setup but I was just an idiot and git some help on here and got it figured out and it actually worked great going out and back in. My new bearings are back in and I have new cam shoes not that they really needed to be replaced but why not since they're out anyway. Just waiting on cams to come and then I'm good to go
