Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Currently i am stuck at a crossroads here and not sure what my next step should be. i have a 2007 night train with a stock 96 ci motor and cr575 cams. I installed those cams with future upgrades in mind but now i think i am going to throttle back on the spending and make my next upgrade the last. Right now i have a set of almost new take off factory 103 pistons and cylinders that i was going to install with .030 head gaskets but before i do that i was thinking of getting my heads worked to increase compression and add a little more snap to the bike. i do have a concern that after getting my heads done i would run into PTV clearance issues but i am sure the company i choose could make sure that wont happen. my other option that i was thinking about is ditching the 103 setup and going with a 110 ci setup and leaving my heads stock. i know stock heads on a 110 ci isnt the best for performance but i am sure it would be plenty. my concern with that setup is the need to get compression releases done and having to send my heads out any ways. all i want is to get the best bang for my buck with my next move and get back to cosmetics.

Bore to 107, new pistons, bit of beadwork and keep those cams, would spank the 110 stock head option badly imo. I'd do some more homework with someone. One of our sponsors will likely chime in.
Have to agree with Chris on the 107"er. If your gonna do the heads I would add that a 107" @10.5:1 with S&S 585 would really up the ante... and you can do this with your own cylinders.. I know that Hillside will do a bore and setup pistons (new pistons included) and cams for 1k... You really can't go wrong there... Bolt on performance that'll get you well into the teens hp/tq.... I'm sure Kirby will be right there as well. I know he really likes the S&S 585's.....
IMO bore to 107 and spend the money optimizing the heads for the cam you already have will take you farther than a 110 kit and stock heads. Several good people to talk to about that cam, on my short list would be Scott from Hillside and Daren Sheffer from Sheffer's Performance HD he has done many builds with that cam and you can probably find some dyno sheets on his facebook page.
