Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Hi Everyone,
I am riding riding a 2007 FXD. The last couple of years I have noticed some pretty ugly vibration at lower rpms. Along with this is some pretty messy engine/exhaust sound. One if the things I have noted is that when I come to a stop light the bike doesn't settle into that rhythmic idle that sounds so good. The engine and exhaust sounds random. I took the bike in last year and the mechanic treated the vibration by changing the motor mount and the rough idle was attributed to a bad seal. Neither if these seemed to do anything to treat the overall roughness of the motor.
If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate to hear them.
Have you changed out the plugs, and cleaned or changed the air filter?. Is your gas fresh?. Alot of little things can make a bike run crappy, look at those first.,,

I have new plugs, wires, filter. Gas is a non factor. I was going to run some sea foam through there.
It's crazy the vibration will shake the **** out of my fairing...
Have been running a top tier gas in it? For years I ran the gas from a reputable station here in town, then after some research starting use a "Top Tier" gas. The bikes started running better, I'm thinking the injectors were carboned up and the better gas cleaned them up real good. I'd run that Seafoam for a few tanks and see what the engine does. Was 07 the year for the injector tech bulletin?

Thanks for that. This will be my 4th season with the bike and I have never put anything but premium fuel in it.

I was looking at your location and I was suggesting "Top Tier" as in U.S. standards. That would be Shell, BP, Chevron. Google Top Tier in Canada and maybe they will list the T/T gas. In the states T/T has has extra detergents in the gas and local gas stations will have minimum amounts of detergents as required by law. If you can't find a T/T gas use Chevron Techron at recommended dosage to help keep the injectors clean. Good luck.
