Build Opinions
Feuling cams are an odd animal. They have high LSA and way too much exhaust duration. They might work if you set the CCP at around 220 but I'd pass. I suspect that the cams were designed by a motor simulator and not a real person. I've got simulator that tends to have cams that way. They may work well on motors with induvial runners but I've yet to see a dyno run that was impressive.
Don't do what I did. I tried to put together a S&S build and really thought I'd have some power. After putting all this money into the engine, I was so disappointed I turned to the Forums and pretty much got crucified. My build started before S&S had the 107" and 110" kits out. I chose the 106" big bore kit with the 89cc heads. At that point, cams didn't really matter, I was running less than 10:1 compressions and like described by djl, it was a TURD. It made some power with the S&S 585 cams, but for the money, I felt it should have been more. If I had it to do over, I would have gone with a 107" kit from one of these great builders here and push 120 hp/tq with my factory cylinders and heads reworked. For the money, reliability, and overall fit and finish, do a build for you.
As far as cams, the 585's cam pack a punch as long as you have enough compression. It's NOT good in a low compression engine, no low end.
I went with Kirby at Vee-Twin Racing in FL for the recent updates. Good luck to you.
