Default Woods 22XD vs 22XE vs SE498 Tuning Concerns

Hey everyone, hope you're all having a great day! I've got a question about camshaft options for my M8 Fat Bob as I'm looking into a Stage 2 upgrade. I've come across two options: the "Woods Performance WM8-22XD" and the "Woods Performance WM8-22XE." Can anyone simplify the difference between these for me?

Here's the scenario: I received a custom tune from Fuel Moto for my bike, but they mentioned they didn't have a tune specifically for the Screaming Eagle 498 Cam that I intended to use. Instead, they provided a tune for a Woods 22XD cam, saying it's the closest match. Now, I'm considering swapping out the SE-498 cam for the 22XD or even the 22XE (assuming it won't affect the tune).

But here are my concerns:
  1. I can't find the 22XD cam listed on Woods Performance's official website. It's available on Fuel Moto, Tucker Speed, etc., but they're all showing it as backordered.
  2. Since the XD cam is backordered, can I use the 22XE cam instead? I'd love to hear your opinions on this!
  3. If I switch to the 22XD or 22XE, will I notice better performance compared to sticking with the Screaming Eagle cam?
Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I should also mention that I'm intending to use the Screaming Eagle Pro Wideband Kit. With the Powervision, I anticipate being able to either autotune or even target tune the tune file provided by Fuel Moto.

Well,
Not apples to apples.
The SE 498 has a high lift that requires upgrades springs , and should also upgrade lifters.

Woods 22's can use stock springs

I'm planning on upgrading the valve springs and installing a new oil pump and plate, lifters, and pushrods, and I'm even upgrading the intake manifold, injectors, and clutch springs. While I understand that not all of these upgrades are necessarily required for a stage 2 upgrade, I prefer to go a bit above and beyond to preempt any potential future issues.

My primary question remains:
  1. Since the XD cam is currently backordered, would it be feasible to utilize the 22XE cam instead? What's the difference between the XE and XD in Layman's terms?
  2. If I opt for either the 22XD or 22XE cams, can I expect improved performance compared to sticking with the Screaming Eagle 498 cam?

I don't think there's that much difference between the XE and the XD but it appears that the XE will come on a little sooner and the XD will carry out a little further.. Look at fuel models website where they match the cams, 114 cam shoot out...
I would definitely take the woods cams over the screaming Eagle..

Depends on how you ride... If you like to wind it out and ride fast all the time the XD should be fine. If you ride less aggressively, I think you would be happier with the XE.. That extra 20 degrees of exhaust duration on the XD takes away some low end torque and moves it up a bit...

As said above check out the cam shootout on fuel motos website. I went with the 22XD in my bike because it carries power further out on top end. The torque comes on just a few hundred rpms later on bottom but it makes a few more hp up top compared to the 22XE. Also it has a nasty lope at idle.

I can only speak for the 22XE. LOVE it.
the snap off idle will pop your head back. It pulls fast up to 4th grear 3500rpm. and then power takes over and will crank up to 90 eaasily.
We oftern ride at 80-85 on open highways here in Az. And plenty of open roads around the state.
And if need to pass at 75-80 mph, can handle even with 2 up.

And also just did a 1K mile IRON BUTT ride a week ago. 18.5 hrs...95% open roads, ran perfect.

You said your tune came from Fuel Moto, right? Once you choose your cam, just let them know the new details and they should be able to just update the tune for you. Why guess? Let FM help you.

I would not use the SE 498 cam,,,,normally, in your case definitely not without a compression increase and performance valve springs. Ive tuned 2 bikes eith the 22xe cam, but i didnt particularly care for the exhaust choices on those bikes. You could also look atvthe Redshft 472 and the S&S 475, but i think those 2 like a bit of a comp bump as well. If you remove your heads for the valve spring install, maybe you could get a thinner head gasket.
pick a good exhaust and tune it with a Powervision or TTSMastertune.
