Default Frustrated

Hi guys , i have a 1996 Dyna Lowrider , im having problems with the complete air cleaner assembly coming off with carby still attached . Iv been told the plastic plate that fits over the carby and slots over the two head bolds just sits there firmly over the two head bolts , iv also been told that the two head bold hold this plate on , at the moment this plastic plate is just sitting over the bolts , nothing is actually fixing it to the heads , the air filter is then bolted to the carby , and the outside cover bolted to the air filter . Any confirmation on how this all fits together correctly would be appreciated , and then where i could purchase a new plastic plate , im from New Zealand so looking scarce to find here , cheers

The backing plate bolts to the heads, it's what holds it all together. You have allen bolts in where it mounts.

Did you buy this as a running bike?

The engine breather system uses hollow bolts, which also fasten the backing plate to the cylinder heads.

See item 6 in the illustration.

Looks like backing plate might have pulled inserts and thats what we are seeing on bolts maybe? That would mean new backing plate. Ebay would be best bet.

No, you can see the inserts in the backing plate in the pic.

The bolts in the cylinder head are not correct for that backing plate.

@no dogs no hogs How is the breather set up on this engine?

@no dogs no hogs Already asked but not answered, did you buy this as a running machine?

Looks to me like the bushings in the plastic backing plate were pulled through. They can be seen on the bolts in the head. The photo of the backing plate shows there those bushings used to be in the plastic.

Those are not the correct breather bolts. So I wonder if they just plugged the heads. Are there any other breather mods?

It looks like it pulled out the spacer bushings that are installed in the backplate, and someone (maybe) used washers to try and repair it. Is that Allen bolt hollow? If not, you need to use a correct breather bolt.

Hi John , the allen bolts are hollow , i do think that there is some of the backing plate missing , or just worn away where the bolts go threw the backing plate , cheers
