Picked up a 1998 Road Glide, with 43k miles. Lost a base gasket 5 miles into my first ride! I’ve never owned or worked on one of these motors before but teardown seems to be going pretty well. Have a new set of lifters and an inner cam bearing ready to go. Was planning on new rings for the existing pistons, but I’m seeing some material around the wrist pin clip that I wasn’t expecting. Does this look normal? The cylinder looks great (I think).

Looks like at one point water got in, that wrist pin should not be rusted. It also seized some scoring on the wall there. I would be going a little deeper on the rebuild and flush you probably got some shavings in the oil to deal with
