Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Tune it before you do ANYTHING!!! I've got the same cam in a 88 that's been bored to 97. It makes good, wide power and gets 40 mpg ACTUAL mileage, not just the high # on the PV. I had BB do some mild headwork, and get the chambers back to the "stock" 85cc, for about 9.4:1 on the compression. I'm using the PV with the regular O2 sensors, and have just auto tuned the crap out of it. I'm sure that I'm leaving a bit on the table, but it's pretty good. If yours is as bad as you say, I doubt that just compression would help. Myself? I may well pull the heads off this winter and shave them down to get the 9.8 that Kirby (& others) recommend, but the winters here are long, and I'm easily bored. Point is, it runs pretty good at even a lower compression. I'd look elsewhere for the problem. Good luck, and keep us posted.
So mirmuu? You say the same I figured. I may well try this winter to send heads in and have it brought up to the 9.8:1 if it would be ideal. But I figured it should run better myself. I will probably play more with it when we get back up north this weekend. I will try and get some data logs and see about talking to whoever may be able to steer me in right direction. I figured the wife bands should give better readings anyways. Thanks again all and soon as I play with it more I'll post results.
Nobody else want's to say it so I will. Stay away from Revolution, they don't stand behind their product and there way too many reported problems to even consider them. For that matter, neither does Axtell so if you're going 117'' stay away from them too. Do a search, it will be enlightening.

Have been down that road with Axtell, never again. Cost me beaucoup $$ and nearly a year of down time sorting out the problem.
+1 on the S&S cylinders as Kirby suggests and I would also add MTC to the list. I have used their cylinders with good results.
I'll say this too, maybe listening to a guy on e-bay about choosing a cam or any performance part isn't the best way to go. Also no such thing as a plug and play auto tuner. Doesn't exist.
Ok that's news I'm glad to hear. I thought the 113" kit was bolt on for the 103. But hearing several people gun them down that fast there has to be problems I don't care to mess with. So the 107 is bogged bolt on kit out tere? And the cams were cheaper than the others and when he suggested them I had heard the S&s name loads more than the woods or anything else. This is after all my first harley and first bike I've really tore into at all other than general maintenance and carb work. I've been into a few small blocks but nothing v twin other than the fld. And I looked into the thundermax but saw it was a standalone computer and if I were to have problems it would be much harder to find diagnostics than with the PV. And from what I gathered PV is also what S&s recommends as tuner of choice. Once again as soon as I can get out to mess with it again I will try running another autotune or 4 and I will try to do some data logging and post results. Thanks again for all the insight

Stop phucking around with auto tunes; a waste of time. Get the bike on a dyno and in the hands of a competent tuner and be done with it. If you insist on going the auto tune route, call the guys at Fuel Moto and ask the to send you a base map to start from. You are flying blind. JMHO.
