Default Two more questions

#1,when using a timing light, do I have to put in a clear plug ?

#2,is it safe to assume I can pull my evo out without removing the inner primary completely,ya know, from tranny and pulling starter, etc. I'm thinking a lot of time can be saved here.

I'll answer #1. No but you'll make a big mess and spray your face with oil. The plug isn't easy it's still a bitch to time and see the marks. I'll be doing it tomorrow.

Get some bright neon paint or a paint pen to mark the flywheel timing marks before you even start to save yourself some time and trouble.

When I timed mine I marked the dot with a tiny bit of model paint.
Made it a hell of a lot easier to see!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what your asking in number 2.
Are you talking about pulling the motor out of the frame?

If its a stock ignition you can do like I did with my old module which was drill the module and mark where the timing mark is on the pickup , use the timing lite from ignition side , so much easier.

Yeah, pulling motor to rebuild,(not yet),just thinking ahead. I think I can do as I stated unless someone tells me otherwise.

Not a lot more to it to pull the inner at that point. I'd go ahead just to have more working room, if for no other reason.

If your planning on working on the motor for whatever reason you would want to separate the inner from gearbox and motor just to do the seals. It actually works out better if you pull the inner prim off tranny and motor leaving gearbox intact to the frame and seperating the motor from tranny. When you pull a inner primary you would want to attach inner to gearbox then inner to motor and motor to gearbox all in that order.

Seems like wasted time if I don't need to remove it all. As I prefer not to disturb the new starter and all the components, gaskets, every thing is just right. But if I HAVE TO then I have to,rather focus on the evo.

My bike is 89 flht ,not sure what yours is but I do know my starter is bolted to the gearbox and jackshaft through inner primary. Can't see it being any different on another year model of evolution.
