I looking to change the bars on my '88 Ultra and would like to put new grips on it while I'm at it. My question is what would make grips work or not work on my bike with different bars. I know that I have the air chamber in my stock bars but I have that taken care of. Also I have a '90 carb on it. Just a little confused on what will or wont fit.
There's a huge year range for handlebars that will work. The grips are all the same, 1" inch. Just be sure to the the two cable throttle grip. My bike is a 1988 but the stock grips are from a nearly new bike. When I bought it the original grips were in poor shape. I went to the indie shop where I bought it and was going to order new grips but, I wanted stock grips. The guy handed me a new looking set that he had just taken off of a bike for free. Works great..
Thanks guys. I thought that I was over thinking this. I knew I needed 1" grips and figured I needed dual cable grips. But I think what confused me was that some grip descriptions said they fit 96-03 and the next said 02-13 (these are just examples). I wanted to make sure it was clear before I dropped money on some.
I think you are ok until '13 I think that is when Harley went to fly by wire throttle controls. You might have to do a slight mod to the left grip though.
08 and up touring is all throttle by wire. I don't know if the other models went after 13
