Default V-Thunder Cams

Has anyone tried a cam from V-Thunder? Comp Cams makes these and their cams for cars are great. Any opinions?1993 Fatboy and I'm running stock compression, intake port has been gasket matched, Mikuni HSR 42, Thunderheader and a six speed. Looking for low end grunt with strong mid-range. Ride two up most of the time. Open to all suggestions.

I replaced a high dollar Red Shift grind cam in a Shovel with one of their cams. What an inprovement. Call them, tell them what you have and what you want to accomplish they will advise.

You might want to look at the S&S 520 or 546 cam...both are designed for low-end torque and two -up riding..I have the 520 in my 88' FXRS..but I also have the S&S heads and 10:1pistons..and I get off the line very nice with the set-up as well as mid-range...but if your running stock compression and not looking to do any extensive engine mods..justlooking for a bolt-in cam..the Andrews EV27 is apossible choice.

Andrews EV-13 and EV-27 are fine cams for an Evo. They both make power right off idle through about 3500 rpm, right where you want it for an HD. I wouldn't go above a .500 lift with stock heads and springs.

Bolt-in is the way I want to go. Was leaning towards a EV27 or a V-Thunder 3010. Similiar duration and lift. Andrews is a given for making a quality product. Just want to hear if anyone had tried a V-Thunder and what their impression was.

Just installed a V Thunder 3020 a couple of weeks ago. Man what a difference!! Motor went from a pulse to a heartbeat. The only thing now is my exhaust is too loud, even riding easy, the exhaust note has changed completely. V & H staggers with baffles installed. ( It does sound good though).Previously installed K&N filter, carb rejetted 46 slow and 185 main (I think) and adjustable mixture. While I was at it I went ahead and replaced the lifters with OEM and installed SE adjustable pushrods and of course new B-138 bearing. I just put about about 600 miles since the install so I haven't really got on it yet. But what little I did I could tell that that cam really woke the motor up. I didn't go with the 3010, from what I heard the 3010 cam is good for low end torque such as on baggers. The 3020 starts around 2500 up thru 5500 RPM. I really need to find an open road now and wind er up.
So far I really like the 3020. Did not change out the gear and there is no noticeable noise that I can tell.
I took my time and found the 3020 camand SE chromemoly adj. pushrods new from ebay. My total cost for new lifters, pushrods, cam,cam bearing and seals was around 300.00. Best 300.00 I spent. Install was about 6 hours. Not bad I thought for my first time doing it.

I think you will be pleased with the V Thunder cam. I would contact V Thunder and see which one 3010, 3020 would work best for you.
By the way, bike is a 1997 Dyna Superglide

Thanks for the reply. I will call them and see which cam they recommend. Is the exhaust really that much louder? I've got a Thunderheader which is loud to start with. Don't want to p*ss the neighbors off to bad leaving for work in the morning.

Yeah it is. Maybe not so much louder but more defined, crisper sounding. I really didn't like the sound from the V & H to begin with. Not deep enough. But pipes aren't cheap and these have only been on a couple of years. If your Thunderheader has that deep sound it might not be too bad.
It does come in handy though, just this AM coming into work some dipsh*t made a right turn in front of, (no one behind me the little bisturd could of waited 10 more seconds), anyway down stepped a gear, cracked her open and went past him WOT. Hah, he jerked the wheel pretty good to the right. I don't think he knew what the hell happened. Hoped he spilled his coffee.
Go ahead with cam install and see how she sounds. Might not be that bad.
Good Luck

There are bolt in from Bob Woods. Short duration and max lift for bolt in = fat TQ range and happy rider. I went with a w6h 240 duration and .590 lift.Branch heads 10:1 pistons.MIK 42hsr Holy cow what a sizable diffrence in TQ and pu fuel economy. Still too much of a chicken to open her up full throttle. I know it is a lot more than what you are looking for, but he makes nice bolt in cams.
