Default Next fix, new tail light FXST

My 99 has some kind of 3rd party oval 60s looking thing that doesn't fit well under the fender. In fact it looks terrible. AND, my stock luggage rack doesn't fit either.

The previous owner owner made a few cheap changes that I'm trying to fix. He gave me a box full of stuff including the stock luggage rack. I'm slowly getting this girl back into somewhat orignal shape, but I need a nice looking tail light that will let me attach the stock harley rack. I've consider finding a stock one, but it looks large and clunky with all the steel supports. If I have to, I will go back to stock, but I would like something a little more eligant. to match the smaller single lights in my other thread

Any suggestions? Andy help and pictures are much appreciated. I really like this bike.

I always thought this was the best looking tail light for the older softails...luggage rack is tight at best.

Yes, that is the one I have. Well the light is the Cat's Eye, but that is the same bracket.

I fought with it for three hours last night. I must have taken it apart and put it back together a dozen times trying to make it work, but the conclusion is that the luggage rack can't be used with it.

I'm going to watch craigs and ebay for an original tail light and bracket to pop up. I don't really care for the original light, but I like the luggage rack enough to go back to it. I'm a little surprised that someone hasn't figured out a conversion for evo bob tails.

Here is that bracket, with a 'cateye" tail light and an OEM Harley luggage rack...wasn't too tuff to make work...but the bike is long gone so I can't look at it and tell you what I did....and my memory is more long gone than the bike.

J&P CYCLE, here's the thing though, bracket was fine but the light don't fit with the rack. I dismantled it and modified the light to accept the rack. Had to recess it and reseal it . I liked it that much and didn't want to send it back. lol
