in the simplest terms it allows a second ignition curve. One advanced curve and one less advanced.

I have to disagree with the idea of how the voes works. Why would i want full advance on a lite tip in on the throttle with low rpm and under load. All these items together create pre ignition....

Key phrase is "under load", if the VOES is right it switches to the slower curve when vacuum drops/enough load applied to make it ping.

Answer= Changes your timing.

Advances or retards your timing based on load applied to it (read vacuum). Simplest way to put it.
