So it can be had for cheap. A power commander 5 will run you 350-400$
Auto tune another 2-300. Then you get to dyno....you guessed it 3-400$ . That's IF the fuel injection MM is working properly. That's why I ditched the efi.
I got new, the PC V, The PC Auto Tuner, and the PC Data Logger for $850 from Amazon

With the PC Auto Tuner, I tell it what AFR we want the engine to run at.

Map for Cylinder 1

Map for Cylinder 2

And the data log shows how it is working

It is a very simple system.
Unfortunately, most folks refuse to read the one chapter in the Harley service book on fuel injection.
Again, it is a simple system.
Some folks went as far as changing to carb because of the inability to trace a simple problem like the loose electrical connection for the crank sensor.
M & M fuel injection was used on some bikes from about 1995 to 2001.
Since it was later replaced by Delphi some mechanics are much less experienced with the system.
A simple loose wire, failure to clean ECM connections or dirty throttle body caused much frustrations to some.
If you research Magneti Marelli you will have a greater understanding of that company.
Used in may pricey applications.
Parts are available.
The most difficult part to obtain is a gas tank but they can be obtained.
The engine temp sensor, cam position sensor and making sure to keep the throttle body clean are probably the most common service.
Heck, even carbs are viewed as unusual by some young mechanics.
Many are still on the road.

My 96 Road King has the EFI system, a head temp sensor went out and I just replaced a cam sensor that was melting. If the price is right pick it up and ride hell out it. Stash a few bucks away as you go towards the conversion and keep hitting it. I've logged over 10,000 on mine since I bought it and do not regret it at all. My 96 does not have a tunable ECM so I am thinking about the S&S module GRBrown has spoken of.

I have a 97 FLHTCUI with 98K and counting. I have replaced Failed Engine temp sensor at about 75K, Air Intake temp at 83K and also replaced Cam position sensor when I did my top end rebuild and cam swap last winter at 91K, because it had a little oozing of the sealant and for piece of mind but it was still working correctly. If you don't plan to go crazy with the motor, its a fine system and as other have said fairly easy to trouble shoot IF YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK....Would buy another in a heartbeat.
