Default Difference between 98 and 99 softails

Doing some changes over the winter to my 98 softail, I noticed some parts like fenders will say for a 99. What is the difference between the 2 years? Is the frame different or maybe the rear tire size? Thanks

I think the TC came out at the end of '99 for Softails.
That could be the difference

I pretty sure they redid the whole frame for that new TC motor. If I'm not mistaken swingarm also for bigger rear tire.

A 99 softail would be evo, and not many differences. I know a 99 will have the 5 hole derby cover.

No. They are identical..... The only differences would be the domestic frame US, vs. international frame. Atleast it is with the fatboy model....

I was wondering about this too....I have a 99 Fatboy an the only repair manual I could find was for softails to 98.....I got a digital download of it until I can find a hard copy of the 99 manual. Any insight into this would be a big help.

The Dealer has a bunch of them.
Get a parts manual while you are at it.

Forgive me I was wrong the TC motors came in 2000. I thought baggers and Dynas got them in 98 and Softails in 99. Wrong after research. So if I was you I would go on an online parts catalog and do some sparing of part numbers.

The frame was changed for the TC in 2000. It simply didn't fit. That was the reason why the Softail was a year late getting the new engine. But it was a very slight change of what I understand. One of the tubes had to be flattened slightly.
