When your ignition sensor is bad it will become heat sensitive. When it gets hot you will lose all spark.......When it cools, spark will come back. Take off the points cover and heat the sensor with a blow drier while the bike is running..........If the motor craps out, You've found the problem. If your primary case is extremely low on oil .......This heat will transfer to the lower half of your engine and cause the sensor to fail also

If theignition sensor is good, check your coil. A coil will do that when hot when it's going bad.

I had a similar problem. turned out to be the ignition module. the screaming eagle one is cheaper then the stock replacement.

pjb,
Been thining about the SE module for my 93 FXLR. Have you really noticed any difference from the stock one and is it really just plug & play? Thanks

Yes it is plug-n-play, it seems like it really smoothed the engine out, especially in the lower rpm's and at idle. Doesn't hesitate and cough like it used to.

Thanks,
Think I'll try one as it's reasonably priced from Zanotti's. Local Indy is trying to sell me a Dyna 2000, any input on it? I really don't think that I need to spend the money to go to single fire.

I didn't notice any difference or improvement with the screaming eagle module, except that it worked without cutting off like my bad module was doing. the price was better then the standard replacement. they are plug and play on the newer models, I don't remember the years, but on my 85 I had the get the newer style harness adapter. not hard to do and not very expensive from what I recall.
