Maybe something from a bait and tackle shop would work.

I never thought this would be such a problem, gasoline doesn't get along with much. The bait and tackle shop would have something that would fit, but how it holds up to gas is the biggy. I don't want plastic dissolving in my tank, or little pieces floating around.

Besides bait and tackle, they will also have floats for portable gas tanks.

Somehow, I think Seafoam could be useful here.

If the float is brass, you might be able to patch it with some solder.

It's plastic. I've been reading where people have used just a cork and sealed it with RC Airplane dope, if it protects against that stuff, should do ok with gas.

Found a used sender in town, $20 f-ing dollars. Highway robbery. Could only use the float, but it floats, now to adjust it when it gets to half a tank.
