Default Engine oil level

How hard can this be lol.

Harder than modern stuff that's for sure

Checked oil roughly 5 mins after riding for 20 mins so i think the engine should be classified as hot

The level was lower than the full COLD mark but not as low as add quart.

When I check it cold it's also lower than the full COLD mark but not at add quart mark.

Should I top it up or what?

Cheers.

Best to be between the lines than topped off, crank vent works better and cleaner when not full, at least that applies to bottom breather anyway. I maintain a half quart low at all times, that's the golden spot for my bike.

2 1/2 quarts when doing the oil change and that's it. If it's above the bottom line hot, all is good....

Simpler, in a way.

Dry sump vs wet sump. Roller bearings vs shells. The only thing complicated about the Evo oil system is the dry sump design necessitates all the external plumbing. Oil level and pressure are important on car engines. Within limits, they don't matter on Evos.

The purpose of the oil tank is to give the oil a chance to de-arrate and cool. As had been said, as long as the level is above the lower line, you're good.

After an oil change I fill it to mid-way between the marks, then take it for a 20 mile shake-down and check, then fill to just under the top mark. With my 89" Evo (pre-S&S 107") on hot weather trips my Glide could use a quart in around 1,000 miles. On tour I don't want to be filling the silly thing up too often! On our USA/Canada trip, probably the hottest we've ever done at around 90/100 every day, we used almost 4 quarts on 3,500 miles.
