Default noise question

Well I finally decided to ask about this noise I've had for a long time. It's pretty much at idle and maybe up to 1800 rpm. Seems to come from the air breather/carb area and the only way to describe the sound is ....tap a screwdriver handle on a piece of 2x4 lightly.
It's not a ticking or clicking sound..
And of course it's in time with the idle, if you rest your ear or head on the breather it's quite loud.
Any ideas about this noise?

The breather?! How long have you noticed it and have you done anything in recent times? When I did a stage 1 to my ole Glide the increase in noise was very noticeable.

When you Take your ac off does it get louder? Lots of people that do cam changes experience what's called a cluck type sound as if you were to take a wooden tube and tap it with a drum stick.

Some will say it's the characteristics of the cam grind and some say it's the springs slamming the valve closed because of the ramp of the cam.

Which ever it is your not going to get rid of it and it will not do any damage to your motor. It's part of the price you pay for performance..

I've had it with all 4 different Woods cams I've run in my Evo.. I here the EV27 is no different...

I think 98hotridfatboy is onto something, especially since I see you are running heavy valve springs with the EV27.

You need to pinpoint the source of the noise such as rocker box, lifters, etc.

This us made for twin cams, but there is a video here that might give you some ideas.

Keep in mind, it is normal for an Evo to have more mechanical noise than most engines and different Evo's make different noises. My 91 Sportster didn't have nearly the amount of mechanical noise that my Heritage has even though there is nothing wrong with my Heritage.

Want a mechanically silent Harley? Check out 2017 touring bike powered by a Milwaukee 8. The lack of valve train noise kind of scares me lol.

Glide is definitely not talking about a rocker issue...
I have tried the kit for Evo's and could not even get them started into the bolt hole of the rocker. I ended up giving them away...

Thanks for the replies guys, it is a cluck sound like wood. It will be installing the lockers that Bob sent me this winter to try and quiet down the rockers a bit.
