I am hoping that i can get some help with an issue i am having with my 1993 Dyna. It is making a high pitch whistling noise when driving past 3rd gear, it seems to get worse as the motor gets hot. When rolling down the road the whistling is present but when i pull the clutch in the whistling goes away. I will be removing my primary cover off tonight to make sure that my chain is adjusted properly. If anyone can give me advice i would greatly appreciate it.
If the sound goes away when pulling in the clutch lever, in my opinion, I don't think it is the drive belt. I'm thinking if it was the drive belt, then it would be constant regardless if clutch is pulled in or not.
Try to describe where you think the sound is coming from. Front of primary, rear primary, etc.. Happy hunting. YD
Something out of the box to consider, when you're riding fast enough for third gear and beyond, the wind may be playing tricks on you,at maybe your clutch lever area.
Like others said, try to narrow down the area of sound, whistle is usually wind or vacuum related
A few years back,I was getting a pretty shitty sound that really sounded like something wrong with the engine at certain rpm,it turned out to be the ring around my headlight needed to be tightened up some more....easy fix in my case.
Safely try a few things while riding (out of traffic) to locate sound area if possible.
Hopefully it could be this simple but maybe it's your primary adjustment.

Had a whining chirping noise that sounded like it was Como g from the cam chest. Turned out to be the primary chain adjuster over tightened the chain and the harmonics made it sound like it was Como g from other places.
also read the adjuster not working at all and leading to chain slap in the primAry case

The Evos didnt come with an automatic primary chain tensioner. Thank God.
