Ok I am new to this. I currently do not own a Bike yet. I am thinking of buying my brothers 87 softail that has been sitting for at least 10 years without firing. He keeps saying the motor is special. He claims its a evo 1100 and he hasn't taken very good care of it. Ive been trying to take it off his hands for some years but now Im not sure if I want it now. He wants $2500 I told him Id give him $2100. Please if someone could give advise I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You! .

Welcome to the forum!

A few pics would answer a lot of questions. The standard Evo displacement is 1340ci, so not sure where 1100 is coming from.

If it starts and isn't a total wreck, your numbers are reasonable. Maybe even low. Without pics, it's hard to say more.

Pics of the bike would help but you can't post pics until you have 5 posts.

Your brother is wrong as Harley never made an 1100cc evo softail.

First things first does the bike start and run?

I know it ran but the battery died and his cheap *** just let it sit all these years while I tried everything to get my hands on it. I told him years ago I would put the money in it to keep it going and it could still be his bike but hes a dirtball. Most of the years he kept in garage but now he has it under a open canopy with a tarp over it. Such abuse it makes me so mad. So what should my first steps be if I decide to get this? I think title says over 12000 miles but not real sure.

I was just there this weekend ans I didnt even think of taking pics. darn.

so it must be a sportster than if its really evo 1100?

it has to be the smaller sportster. Also available in the Sportster model beginning in 1986, it was made in the 1,100 cc (67 cu in) displacement until 1988 and is still made in the 883 cc (53.9 cu in) and 1,200 cc (73 cu in) [1] displacements for the Harley-Davidson Sportster, replacing the ironhead Sportster engine.

Who knows?

Back to the pics. That would answer most of the questions.

This thread reads more like it's about your brother than the bike.

well hes a lying douche bag so sorry. Ill try to get some pics. it must be the sporster and has alot of little rust sposts showing on the crome now. springs and forks seem to still be moving ok. I was really wandering if that was a decent price for the fact its been sitting all this time. I know I'll have to do some work to it and Im fairly mechanically inclined. I kow the pic would be a great help and will try to work on that. Thanks for the help so far.

if it's 1100 it's a sportster not evo the title should say so. go out of your way and get some pictures. they can be quite helpful.

If you do get it First and foremost go to the local HD dealer and order a service manual it will come in handy.

An 87 Sportster in rough shape is worth about half of $2100.
