I’m thinking of changing the air filter on my 1990 FXRS to an S&S tear drop to match more with the vintage of the old girl.
Any ideas what carburettor the fxr will be running please?
I do wonder if it is a later spec carb than the original one, but I no longer have the stock carb on my 1990 Glide to check. In fact I like the S&S air cleaner so much I bought mine with an engine and carb attached!
im quite happy with the engine and carb arrangement but I’ve never been 100% happy with the air filter. Been talking about doing the swap for so long now I reckon it’s time to bite the bullet

Indeed!
OP, the carb is certainly the CV type, but I should have added that the backing plate (the chrome thing holding the carb to the heads) shown here is not stock.
My $0.02 on this project is that by the time you sort out the required parts to fit a teardrop cover, you'll find you're well on the way to buying an s&s carb anyway. And that's not a bad idea, although the carb you have is perfectly good, too.

I do Not see a Problem with a Change tho... I would Never put anything except a K&N [A Real one... not Chiwanese copy] Air Filter onto any Vehicle.
