Default upgrade 1987 FXR engine

I bought a 1996 Evo from a friend to put in my FXR. the orig. has trashed 2 oil pumps, so something is coming apart in the lower end. having replaced porous casting cases before on my 1980 and my buddy's 1990, I am reluctant to do a bottom end. the change over to the oil lines is simple enough. are thre any differences on the drive side as to the splines and any spacers/ spacing required to put a 2nd gen evo in an earlier primary drive? remember the pre 89 had a totally different starter. Can I use the '87 compensator and everything else......plug-n-play?
Thnx guys who have been here before. I AM looking forward to a head breather engine. my '87 FXLR is in really good shape otherwise.

Should Drop right in and be a great UpGrade..
My 1983 [shovelhead] was in such poor shape.. I am Not sure I can Save it..
Dropped a Used 1993 EVO into it for "In the mean Time" No Problem whatsoever...

Gotta Know what goes where... and Oiling changed slightly [For me, Prolly Not You.]
No Problems..
The Crank [Output on the Primary Side] Ain't changed since the "Cone Motor" Shovelhead.... Not significantly anyway!!
Believe me... the EVO from Shovel Swap, is More Change than you are going to Encounter!!!

thanx Racepres. I rebui8lt the stock motor @ 51K miles 2 yrs. ago (former HD wrench and jet engine mech), and all was fine until 55K, then the oil pump drive gear key broke. I had another VGC oil pump, so I put it and all new keys in the pump, new gaskets, and new oil lines. oil pump locked up again, scavenge gear this time, so something is pulverizing or extremely wearing in the lower end, so fooey on that. I'll put the new Fueling lifters and EV27 cam in the 96 motor from the failed one and let the good times roll. (new cam bearing too). I realize the pumps are different on the 92 and up

Not a terrible Plan..
Note that my Primary is "isolated" ... not stock... so I did Not have any Problems with the Newer Pump... Didn't even use the Oil Filter from the engine... used the one underneath on the FXR..

No... One is plenty... My Sportster [1977 XLCH] still has None!!!
The Biggest problem with the H-D oiling System is the Inability to Return oil efficiently .. I won't even run a Oil Cooler if it is Not Necessary...
Gonna Lots of Disagreement on this one... But... anyone who has Built a Competition H-D Engine knows the oiling problems
